Masaru Hyodo is a bully that Koyuki encountered in middle school. He is good at playing guitar, and plays with fine technique. He targets Koyuki, because he thinks that Koyuki is overstepping the social rankings at the school when he starts to get more confident in himself.
In middle school, he led the "Hyoudo Patrol", a violent delinquent gang of sorts that did his bidding in order to maintain his social standing at school. This involves shunning new students (or rather, students that get on his nerves), violently and verbally harassing them, signing them up for menial (gofer duties at the cafeteria) and impossible (representing at sporting competitions) events, as well as monetary extortion and blackmail.
He is later seen in one of the later chapters, bumping into Koyuki and company and exchanging greetings, where it is revealed that he had his own underground band, which had just broken up.
Personality[]
Masaru is a bully, who behaves in an arrogant and controlling manner. He allies with Rikiya to bully Koyuki. His attitude toward Koyuki improves later on in the series.
Masaru is also a talented musician and guitarist. His father was a famous guitar player who played in Baumkuchen, an 80's band. He gets angered when his father is mentioned, as his parents have divorced. Although it seems he still respects him, as he hesitated on beating up Saku after he mentioned how both he and his mom are fans of Hyodo's father's band, as well as quoting his father during his later meeting with Koyuki.
Relationships[]
Yukio Tanaka: Bullies him around most of the time when they interact. Slowly began to respect him more after the school band contest, as well as after being beaten up by Rikiya, who found out about Hyodo's treachery.
Rikiya Kitazawa: Hyodo was initially friends with fellow delinquent Rikiya, but then he uses him as a means to make Koyuki's school life miserable through extortion and blackmail. When Rikiya was made aware of the truth, he became furious, and beat Hyodo into a pulp, most likely ending whatever friendship they've had before that point.

Anime Plot[]
Hyodo is seen in the middle of Episode 6 of the anime, walking in with his friends on Koyuki holding a Jaguar. He challenges him to play it. When he does, Hyodo isn't impressed at all, laughing at him with his buddies. Koyuki confronts one of them, but gets into a scuffle, scratching the guitar. Hyodo tells him that the owner of the guitar is someone who's dangerous and it sucks for him. He then invites him to meet the owner, Rikiya Kitazawa. Eventually, Masaru tells Rikiya and he orders them both to make enough money together to pay back. Kitazawa finds out that Hyodo uses Koyuki's name just to bully him, and turns on Hyodo. When bullying Koyuki, Hyodo gets confronted by Saku. He gets pissed off after he mentions his father, but later gets his ass kicked. In Episode 11 (Summer Holiday), Masaru is seen playing an acoustic guitar.
